Jacaranda Tree Leaves

Jacaranda Tree Leaves

Inspired by my mentor’s Bonnie Christine leaf pattern I wanted to make a pattern that was similar to hers and yet very much my own.

So I walked outside my Koreatown apartment to look for inspiration and straightaway noticed a few seed-pods on the ground which at a first glance resemble empty soft-shell turtles.

Here’s a little video of the seed pods and a bit of the tree itself.

The pods were interesting and then I noticed the leaves!

I was looking for “fern like” leaves and luckily they were all right there under a mammoth Jacaranda Tree right at the end of my street.

Some cool facts about the Jacaranda Tree are:

  • Their scientific name is Jacaranda mimosifolia

  • They are originally from Brazil - just like me 😘

  • These trees are strong and grow to be tall with deep root systems

  • Their fern like leaves provide a cool shade during the Summer months

Below are the pictures I took of the tree and the assets I collected that day.

I really want to make a pattern collection with these and am very curious to see what I come up with, for it will be my very first pattern collection ever 😊

Here’s a small sample of the ideas that sprung up from this marvelous tree. Click here to see the full Jacaranda Pattern Collection.
